Getting Ready to Bake: Prep Steps for Perfect Cookies
Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F.
Lining your baking sheet with parchment paper can help prevent sticking and make cleanup easier, which is why it’s a recommended step.
Be sure to get all of the equipment you’ll need out in advance - having these tools on hand will help streamline your cookie-making process and make decorating your spooky spiders a breeze! In addition to cookie sheets, you’ll need:Large Mixing Bowl
Large Spoons/Cookie Scoop
Saucepan (for melting chocolate)
Heat-Safe Bowl
Piping bag (or Ziploc bag)
Finally, to make the decorating process faster, unwrap the peanut butter cups. From Scratch to Spooky: How to Make Your Cookie Dough
In a large mixing bowl, pour in the package of Classic Sugar Cookie Mix, 8 tablespoons of unsalted butter, and 1 large egg. If using a stand or hand mixer, mix on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until all of the ingredients are fully combined.
You can also hand-knead the dough, as demonstrated in the Let’s Make It Together: My Better Batch Classic Sugar Cookies.Melt The Chocolate
One of the easiest ways to melt chocolate in a saucepan is using the double boiler method. Start by filling the saucepan with 1-2 inches of water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat to a gentle simmer.
Place a heat-safe bowl on top of the saucepan, ensuring it doesn't touch the water. Add the chocolate to the bowl and stir frequently until it melts completely and becomes smooth. Once melted, remove the bowl from the heat and let the chocolate cool slightly before using.
We recommend starting with ½ cup - 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips - you can always melt more later!Roll Dough and Bake The Cookies
Take 2 tablespoons of raw sugar cookie dough and roll into a ball, placing each one 2 ½ inches apart on the prepared baking sheets. Once all of the dough is formed into balls, bake at 375°F for 9-11 minutes.

Once the cookies are baked but still hot, gently press an upside-down peanut butter cup into the center of each. Pipe eight lines from the cup's edge to the cookie's rim, resembling spider legs. Finally, add two (or more!) candy eyes to the base of the peanut butter cup to complete the creepy-crawly creation.
Allow the cookies to rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
