Be Mine, Cutie Pie and Hug Me…these are just a few of the sayings on the nostalgic Conversation Heart Candies. Add the sweet flavor of conversation hearts and sprinkles into your Sugar Cookie Mix for a sweet surprise perfect for Valentine's Day festivities.
Conversation Heart Sugar Cookies
1 Bag Sugar Cookie Mix (prepared according to the packaging instructions)
1/4 Cup Valentine's Day Sprinkles
3/4 Cup Conversation Hearts (1/2 Cup Crushed and 1/4 Cup Whole for decorating)
Using a stand mixer, mix up the sugar cookie mix. This recipe calls for a 16 oz mix, 1 egg and 8 TBSP Softened Butter. Place ingredients in the base of a stand mixer, a hand mixer would work as well, and turn on medium low speed for a few minutes until a dough forms. The dough may appear crumbly in the beginning but over time those crumbs will become larger and larger forming dough.
It is now time to add sprinkles and crushed conversation hearts. To crush the conversation hearts, add 1/2 Cup into a food processor and pulse for about 30 seconds until they are ground down. Beware - this is LOUD! If you have little ears in your house or pets that don't like loud noises, you may want to give them a warning!
Add 1/4 Cup Valentine's Day Sprinkles (or any pastel sprinkle color of your choice) and 1/2 Cup Crushed Conversation Hearts (hold onto the remaining 1/4 cup whole Conversation Hearts to decorate the tops of each cookie). Now that the sprinkles and conversation hearts have been added to the dough, turn mixer on low speed until everything is incorporated. Using a 2 TBSP scoop, scoop all of the dough and place 8 cookies on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven for approximately 10 minutes.
Once the cookies have come out of the oven, and while they are still hot, decorate the top of each cookie with 2-3 whole conversation hearts to finish them off.
